Overview
CoinJar is one of Australia’s oldest crypto exchanges, founded in Melbourne in 2013 and also operating in the UK. It is AUSTRAC-registered (and its UK arm is FCA-registered), with a clean security record and a well-regarded mobile app plus a spending card. Its Trust Score™ of 6.9 reflects a long, stable track record and a polished product, balanced against a smaller coin range and a high “instant buy” fee.
Security
CoinJar protects customer assets with multi-signature and MPC technology and cold storage, runs a HackerOne bug-bounty program, and supports two-factor authentication. We found no security incidents in its 13-year history. As with most local exchanges, it does not offer customer-fund insurance or a published proof-of-reserves attestation, and Australian balances are not covered by any government scheme.
Fees
There are two ways to trade, and the difference matters. The simple instant buy carries a 1% fee (2% if funded by card), while the CoinJar Exchange interface charges maker/taker fees from just 0.1%, dropping further with volume. AUD deposits via PayID and bank transfer are free. Active users should use the Exchange, not instant buy.
Coins & features
CoinJar lists around 68 cryptocurrencies — a curated rather than exhaustive range — and offers the CoinJar Card, a Mastercard that earns 1% in rewards on spending. Support is email/ticket-based, with no live chat.
Verdict — who should use it
CoinJar suits long-term holders and everyday users who value a simple, well-designed app, a spending card, and a stable, established Australian operator — provided they use the Exchange interface to keep fees low.
It is less suited to those wanting a wide altcoin selection, live-chat support, or insured custody.

CoinJar's trading fees are around 0.1% maker / 0.1% taker on market orders. AUD deposits via PayID, Bank transfer are typically free.
